How AARTO makes drivers more accountable

The main way that the AARTO system differs from the previous system is by making individual drivers more accountable.

 

With the TFMS, Avis Fleet helps fleet managers by putting the responsibility for fines directly on drivers who have incurred fines by making traffic infringements.

 

Previously, fines were made out to the company name or in the name of someone representing the company, a proxy.

 

Through the process of redirecting the fine from the company or the proxy into driver's name, in his personal capacity, fine management places responsibility on the driver to pay the fine.

 

Companies save money on paying the fines themselves and on the administrative hours spent dealing with fines.

 

The AARTO demerit system

Unlike the previous system, the Criminal Procedures Act (CPA) system, the AARTO system works according to a point system where drivers gradually accumulate points for infringements.

 

In escalated stages drivers will have their licenses suspended and in cases where offenders do not pay fines the issuing authority will ultimately implement a warrant of execution and collect goods to the value of the fine.

 

Every driver will start off with zero points and will accrue more points until he reaches 12 points. At this stage the driver’s licence will be suspended or cancelled, and he could lose professional driving permits or operator cards.

 

Losing your license, as a driver, would have negative effects for you such as lost earnings or being moved to another position that doesn’t involve driving.

 

The driver’s company will also have to suffer negative effects such as lost productivity and income. The situation is reversible – for every three months that a driver doesn't incur points one point will be deducted.
