Impact House strives to create a loving family environment for children irrespective of race, religion or gender. The home was established as a satellite home of the uMephi Project in January 2002.
Impact House is a registered children’s home which cares for children who have been placed in their care by court order through the welfare system.
The uMephi Project are the welfare department of the Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa. They care for children in need including those that are abused, neglected, abandoned, orphaned, HIV infected and affected and children with special needs.
This home is an example of using limited resources in a positive way for sustainable development in our communities.
Avis Fleet’s HR Team visited Impact House in Edenvale. The house has 11 kids of different ages, race and gender. The children are looked after by a house mother who takes care of their needs including taking them to school.
Impact House’s wish list included a washing machine and we identified this as an area where we could help the home and contribute towards their sustainable development.
We were happy to provide the washing machine for them, and we also organised a lunch and gift packs for each child.
Nolubabalo Lukhele, Human Resource Administrator at Avis Fleet, and SED Champion for the HR Department believes being involved in the SED Initiative is truly beneficial because it encourages companies to contribute to communities in need.
Nolubabalo says the act of helping others creates an improved sense of wellbeing for those involved in the upliftment of people.
Nolubabalo says the initiative was a success: “We gave them a washing machine and they also had their lunch. And they were so happy. We created magical moments with them as Avis Fleet. And they had fun.”
